2023 VSO Excellence Award Winner: Jessica McClellan
April 18, 2024 by Leslie Steckler
Tyler's Veterans Service Officers (VSO) Excellence Awards recognize the outstanding work VSOs provide to those who have served in our nation’s armed forces. We are thrilled to highlight one such VSO, Jessica McClellan from Stark County, North Dakota, who won the Exceptional Outreach Award for her outstanding work with veterans in her community.
A Commitment to Service
Jessica has been passionately serving veterans in North Dakota for more than 10 years, using Tyler’s VetraSpec application to seamlessly operate claims processing between five counties to ensure more than 4,500 veterans get the services and benefits they deserve. Her commitment goes beyond simply offering services; she actively works to connect with veterans and build strong relationships. This dedication to exceptional outreach is what truly sets her apart.
Personal Outreach
Jessica's award-winning outreach efforts encompass a variety of passion projects. Since becoming the VSO in Stark County, Jessica has been involved in developing a Veterans Memorial and Veterans Pavilion, a large 160-seat indoor pavilion used for events and gatherings. She was also instrumental in securing the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Wall, an 80% scaled-down replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., to display in Stark County Veterans Memorial Park.
Jessica’s most personal outreach though is with veterans throughout the county who are elderly and live alone. Each month she bakes goodies for these veterans, takes time to visit with them, and makes sure they have access to the services they need. And since there are 200 miles between the five counties she covers, her visits often take up much of her personal time.
Making a Difference
Jessica's exceptional outreach has had a real impact on the lives of veterans in her community. As a result, she recently received the Stark County Spirit of Excellence Award for her efforts to ensure veterans receive the care and support they deserve. By going the extra mile to connect with veterans, she personally ensures that no veteran in her counties feels alone or forgotten.
Congratulations to Jessica McClellan for this well-deserved recognition!
