2023 VSO Excellence Award Winner: Kenneth Kumle
August 09, 2024 by Katherine Shoals
Tyler’s Veteran Service Officers (VSO) Excellence Awards recognize the outstanding work VSOs provide to those who have served in our nation’s armed forces. We are pleased to spotlight one such VSO, Kenneth Kumle, from the Commission on Veterans Affairs Office in Kansas, who won the Software Superstar award for his unwavering dedication and exceptional service to veterans.
A Legacy of Service
Kenneth has worked with the Commission on Veterans Affairs Office for more than five years, and his colleagues describe him as one of their most experienced and knowledgeable Veteran Service Officers (VSOs). As a subject matter expert for veterans’ benefits in Kansas, he trains all new VSOs with skill and patience.
Kenneth is responsible for assisting approximately 4,700 veterans and family members in his tri-county region, managing a majority of claims in Kansas’ busiest field office.
His ability to handle and successfully resolve sensitive cases is a testament to his competency and commitment to serving veterans. Kenneth’s efforts account for more than $1.5 million going back into the pockets of local veterans and their families each month.
Going the Extra Mile
Besides serving veterans in his day-to-day role, Kenneth has also been recognized for his active participation in numerous outreach events, veterans' benefits fairs, and functions across the state. “When the word went out that we needed volunteers to operate a hard-to-fill position in western Kansas that had been vacant for months, Kenneth was the first in line to say, ‘yes’ to the task,” they said. Committing to this new role meant an hours-long commute, but it also ensured that Kansas’ underserved population of veterans would receive the services they needed.
Making an Impact
To stay organized and review the claims that he has processed, Kenneth uses Tyler’s Veterans’ Benefits software. “If I ever doubt whether I am doing a good job, I use [Tyler’s Veterans’ Benefits] to compile end-of-month statistics and data reports, and I know I am making a significant positive impact in my community and the state,” Kenneth shared. “I love helping veterans find the benefits they deserve.”
Congratulations to Kenneth Kumle for this much-deserved award!
