Arrive More Prepared for a Fire Response

A Challenge Every Fire Crew is Familiar With
Imagine: A fire department receives reports of smoke showing from a multi-family residence in their first-due. While the crew piles into the back of the rig, the driver fires up the engine and checks in with dispatch. Dispatch confirms: “Receiving multiple calls, flames showing."
Things get loud. In the back of the engine, there’s the sound of regulators snapping into masks and the air packs turning on. The driver navigates traffic while announcing their approach with air horns and Q-siren.
Questions arise. What is each crew member’s primary job? Where is the nearest hydrant? How should the driver approach the structure for sufficient access without blocking the truck? Where’s the building’s front door? Where’s the back door? Will the preconnect reach the flames?
A crew could answer those questions en route with visibility into the structure’s layout and floor plan. Searching the address in a satellite mapping app is an option if the address is readily available, but even then, they may only get visibility into the front entrance and cross-streets at best, and studying the map during this high-pressure situation would be extra challenging.
A Better Way
In this situation, crews would benefit from technology that:
- Remembers the dispatch address and automatically displays the location, structure details, and hydrants
- Knows the GPS location of the responding unit and provides turn-by-turn directions
- Provides mission-critical information like construction type, roof considerations, access issues, special hazards, etc.
Intuitive pre-planning tools like FlowMSP help crews arrive safer and better prepared by empowering them to:
- Creates detailed structure pre-plans in minutes, not hours
- Includes images with annotations and labels
- Accesses pre-plans en route for improved situational awareness and response planning
- Can be used on any internet-connected device, from any location, with an unlimited number of users
Fire service is inherently risky but maintaining pre-plans gives crews a leg-up to help protect life and property, crew safety, and well-being.
