Iowa's Data Leader on Good Government
Hear from Scott Vander Hart, state data administrator and senior analyst for the State of Iowa Department of Management, in a 2019 Performance Community of Practice on how Iowa embraces technologies to improve governance and drive more use from its data.
The state implemented its first open data portal in 2011, which was upgraded to the Data & Insights Open Data Portal in 2014 to make it easy for their residents to find, access, and use the state's data. Further strides were made in early 2015 when Iowa implemented the Tyler's Data & Insights, powered by Socrata, Open Checkbook™, which provides Iowa residents access to more than 10.5 million financial transactions. And, earlier this year, the state launched Data & Insights Connected Government Cloud for its internal data-sharing program. The state uses it to measure performance, shape policy, and engage the public.
Vander Hart has been dedicated to serving the public with the State of Iowa Department of Management for more than 13 years. During that time, he has worked to increase transparency and accessibility to data across internal and external stakeholders.
